Superjail creators Christy Karacas and Stephen Warbrick spoke with site Screen Invasion at Comic-Con about the upcoming season of Superjail.

Some excerpts:

If you liked season 3, you’ll like season 4. If you hated season 3, you’ll hate season 4.

We don’t try to please anyone, we just try to make it as funny as possible.

We don’t sit around going ‘what’s the show about?’ We just make it. It is almost like a kids show that has violence. The more I think about it, it is a pretty silly show, I mean, it doesn’t make any sense.

  • Season 4 feels very “throwbacky”, they described it as being more situational 80’s TV-esque, but with a big fight scene peppered with random violence.
  • Like season 3, the new season will include more of the staff and inmates interacting as the inmates have come in to their own as characters. Many characters are returning.
  • There are no guests stars this season, just a continued powerhouse performance from David Wain as The Warden.

Superjail season 4 is set to hit Adult Swim sometime in 2014.

  1. Additional info: There’s only six episodes in season 4 for some reason. People are worrying this spells possible cancelation.

    • uh oh… I really really hope not!

    • Buzzkill. Are you serious, man?

      • Unfortunately, yeah!

Reasons remain unknown right now, if it was Adult Swim’s doing or if it was Karacas’ own choice.
One of the writers mentions it on their Linkedin that season 4 is a 6 x 11 (6 episode, 11 minute) series. I’m not sure IF it should be linked, but it seems that they were allowed to list it now, since there tends to be non-disclosure agreements about shows and staff members have to wait at certain points to be allowed to divulge specific things about them.
To be quite honest, a lot of the interviews and press for season 4 have been very vague, even more so than with season 3. Adult Swim still hasn’t uploaded the Titmouse panel from NYCC, so it remains a mystery if anything about the amount of episodes got discussed there.
So whether the writers are wanting to hang up the show themselves, or if there’s still another season planned? It’s all not really known right now. I kind of think if season 4 is great though, it’d be in any of us fans’ best interests to watch it. Since ratings kind of matter, and all. This site seems to have gone static since I can imagine Calvin’s been busy, but there are other venues that can keep you posted on the show (Tumblr’s pretty good, Adult Swim even has their own official one at

  2. This is excellent news! I cant wait to buy season 3 on DVD and then watch season 4!!!!!!!!
