Season three of Superjail is currently in production and will air sometime in 2012.

At New York Comic Con I interviewed Superjail creators Christy Karacas and Stephen Warbrick, and here is a video of that interview:

Thanks to all those who submitted questions for me to ask them; obviously I was not able to ask them all of the many questions you fans posted. Several of the questions were answered in the earlier press conference, which I’ve posted below.

Adult Swim has uploaded a video of some of the highlights of the Superjail panel at NYCC, including Titmouse animator James Sugrue performing his live dub of the episode Gay Wedding.

Superjail was at New York Comic Con this year, and they had some good news to share. The big one, in case you missed the earlier post, is confirmation of Superjail season three! They are currently working on writing the first episodes of the new season and plan to air them next year. Also announced is that season two will be getting a DVD release in 2012. Commentary has been recorded for the episodes, and the DVD will also contain special features such as animatics.

Unfortunately, it doesn’t seem likely that Superjail will be on Blu-Ray yet. The creators of the show are in favor of the idea, but ultimately the decision isn’t up to them. They had similar answers to questions of things like Superjail toys, video games, or crossovers with other Adult Swim cartoons: it would be cool, but unlikely to happen anytime soon.

Information about Superjail was dispensed in the form of two panels with question and answer sessions. The first was a press conference, for news outlets and websites such as this one; the second was a general panel where the creators of the show answered questions to a room full of fans. I’ve transcribed a couple excepts from these panels that you can read below.

Some quick notes from New York Comic Con, a more detailed news post will come later:

  • Superjail has been renewed for a third season of ten episodes, to air in 2012.
  • A season two DVD will be available in 2012, with commentary on the episodes.

There was quite a bit of Superjail-related awesomeness at New York Comic Con 2011; a more in-depth recap will be posted here later. This will include transcripts from the Superjail panel and press meeting, an exclusive interview with creators Stephen Warbrick and Christy Karacas, and photos of cosplayers dressed as the Warden and the Mistress.

Results of previous poll:

All good things must come to an end, and tonight we have the last episode of season two: Vacation. Hopefully this is not the final Superjail episode and we will be seeing a third season soon, but as of now nothing is confirmed.

The Warden takes the inmates and staff on a pleasure cruise aboard his ship and learns that luxury cruises are actually very deadly.

Also: I noticed that the Superjail Season One DVD is currently only $7.66 on Amazon, that’s the lowest price that I’ve ever seen it. If you don’t have it yet, now would be a good time to get it cheap!

After no new episode last week, we now have Superjail Grand Prix, the penultimate episode of season two!

It’s a race to the freedom when the Warden offers shortened sentences based on driving performance.

Next week’s episode is the last Superjail episode of season two, so I’m working on planning a special event for the chat room right after the season finale, more details coming soon!

I’ve heard a lot of varied opinions about Superjail’s second season, and now here’s a poll to turn those opinions into percentages. There are still two episodes left in this season, but I think we’ve seen enough to make a fair comparison.

How do you think Season Two compares to Season One?

  • Season Two is better than Season One. (19%, 35 Votes)
  • Both seasons are equally great. (44%, 84 Votes)
  • Season Two is good but Season One was slightly better. (29%, 55 Votes)
  • Season Two isn't very good and Season One was much better. (8%, 15 Votes)
