Superjail creators Christy Karacas and Stephen Warbrick spoke with site Screen Invasion at Comic-Con about the upcoming season of Superjail.

Some excerpts:

If you liked season 3, you’ll like season 4. If you hated season 3, you’ll hate season 4.

We don’t try to please anyone, we just try to make it as funny as possible.

We don’t sit around going ‘what’s the show about?’ We just make it. It is almost like a kids show that has violence. The more I think about it, it is a pretty silly show, I mean, it doesn’t make any sense.

  • Season 4 feels very “throwbacky”, they described it as being more situational 80’s TV-esque, but with a big fight scene peppered with random violence.
  • Like season 3, the new season will include more of the staff and inmates interacting as the inmates have come in to their own as characters. Many characters are returning.
  • There are no guests stars this season, just a continued powerhouse performance from David Wain as The Warden.

Superjail season 4 is set to hit Adult Swim sometime in 2014.

John from Adult Swim Central conducted an interview with some of the creators of Superjail at New York Comic Con in October. Check out this video of him chatting with Christy Karacas, Stephen Warbrick, Mike Carlo (animation director), Janine DiTullio (story editor), and Richard Mather (character layout artist, voice of The Twins).

At New York Comic Con I interviewed Superjail creators Christy Karacas and Stephen Warbrick, and here is a video of that interview:

Thanks to all those who submitted questions for me to ask them; obviously I was not able to ask them all of the many questions you fans posted. Several of the questions were answered in the earlier press conference, which I’ve posted below.

Adult Swim has uploaded a video of some of the highlights of the Superjail panel at NYCC, including Titmouse animator James Sugrue performing his live dub of the episode Gay Wedding.

Superjail was at New York Comic Con this year, and they had some good news to share. The big one, in case you missed the earlier post, is confirmation of Superjail season three! They are currently working on writing the first episodes of the new season and plan to air them next year. Also announced is that season two will be getting a DVD release in 2012. Commentary has been recorded for the episodes, and the DVD will also contain special features such as animatics.

Unfortunately, it doesn’t seem likely that Superjail will be on Blu-Ray yet. The creators of the show are in favor of the idea, but ultimately the decision isn’t up to them. They had similar answers to questions of things like Superjail toys, video games, or crossovers with other Adult Swim cartoons: it would be cool, but unlikely to happen anytime soon.

Information about Superjail was dispensed in the form of two panels with question and answer sessions. The first was a press conference, for news outlets and websites such as this one; the second was a general panel where the creators of the show answered questions to a room full of fans. I’ve transcribed a couple excepts from these panels that you can read below.

Some quick notes from New York Comic Con, a more detailed news post will come later:

  • Superjail has been renewed for a third season of ten episodes, to air in 2012.
  • A season two DVD will be available in 2012, with commentary on the episodes.

There was quite a bit of Superjail-related awesomeness at New York Comic Con 2011; a more in-depth recap will be posted here later. This will include transcripts from the Superjail panel and press meeting, an exclusive interview with creators Stephen Warbrick and Christy Karacas, and photos of cosplayers dressed as the Warden and the Mistress.

Adult Swim Central and Jailbot.com will be interviewing Superjail co-creator Christy Karacas at New York Comic Con, and we need more questions to ask! Tell us what questions you want us to ask Christy. Leave a comment on this post, and we’ll try to get your questions answered.

The Superjail interview, press conference, and panel took place on October 15, 2011 and comments on this post are now closed.
